On Sunday afternoon a gaggle of reporters crossed the Charles River to MIT for a press tour of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) lab. MIT professor Matthew Evans showed the group around and explained how the upgrades being implemented for the Advanced LIGO project should — with any luck — result in a firm detection of gravitational waves before this decade is out.
