Briefing: Exoplanets
Monday afternoon's press conference, "From Exoplanets to Exo-Earths," featured Geoff Marcy (University of California, Berkeley) and Yoram Lithwick (Northwestern University) on the characterization of Earth-size planets from Kepler using radial velocities and transit-timing variations, respectively. Also presenting new results were David Kipping (Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics), whose team found the first Earth-mass transiting exoplanet, and Laura Kreidberg (University of Chicago), who described a cloudy atmosphere on the super-Earth exoplanet GJ 1214b. AAS Deputy Press Officer Larry Marschall (Gettysburg College) served as moderator.
