At the first of several Historical Astronomy Division (HAD) sessions, six distinguished speakers explored various aspects of how astronomers came to understand the origin of structure and the expanding universe: Virginia Trimble (University of California, Irvine, and Las Cumbres Global Telescope Network), Simon Mitton (University of Cambridge), Robert Smith (University of Alberta), P.
