Dibyendu Nandy (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research) received the Harvey Prize from SPD chair David Alexander (Rice Univ.), then gave a prize lecture on understanding and, eventually, forecasting the solar cycle. He mentioned a new result that he also unveiled in a press conference: the Sun is “forgetful,” such that you can’t use data from more than the last half cycle (roughly 5½ years) to forecast what will happen in the next cycle.
